There are three prerequisites for TQLOne admission: 1. Skills; 2. Motivation; 3. Preparation. Applicants must be pre-qualified before joining a class.

Info
titleWhy Pre-qualification?

We have committed to offering the TQL IoT Course training to a selected group of experienced and motivated software engineers for free. As a part of this commitment, we provide our core engineering resource, extensive technical support, comprehensive program management as well as all other required resources.

The only outcome that can justify this investment is well-trained and accomplished TQL engineers who can become IoT development leaders in their respective domains. Therefore, our bar is set high.

We expect the same level of commitment from our participants to invest in their own learning and growth in IoT. The pre-qualification is to make sure we select qualified candidates.

Skills

Software engineering experience is required for this program. Although no particular programming language or domain is required, participants need to have solid hands-on software development experience in order to benefit from this very hands-on IoT program.

How do we evaluate skill requirements:

  • At the time of application (form), you will be asked to provide updated LinkedIn profile - required
  • Your GitHub account link is a plus

Motivation

Learning any new domain is a commitment. TQLOne is a commitment from us to invest in you, and we look for equivalent level of commitment from you to invest in yourself as well as the community.

We care about your:

  • Motivation to learn and overcome challenges
  • Motivation to lead - setting example for others and team members
  • Motivation to contribute back to the TQL community

A virtual interview is required as a part of the pre-qualification.

Preparation

There is a set of pre-class reparations you must make in order to join. They are to ensure smooth and structured learning experience.

Team: you are required to team up (ideally with local classmates) before the class starts. A team is essential in providing each other support during the learning. Team size is between 2-5.

* In exceptional cases, we accept one person as a team, but you need to talk to the program administrator.

Hardware: there is a mandated set of hardware/devices. The set is offered at component cost ($129 + shipping) to TQLOne members (not for sale!). Your team must procure this hardware set (TQL IoT Kit)* from us before starting the class. We preinstall and pre-configure TQLEngine, as well as any other piece of programs for the Kit with the sole purpose of creating a smooth learning experience.

One team needs at least one shared set of hardware. So the cost can be split across team members. Having more than 1 set is optional.

*  If you already have a Raspberry Pi and want to avoid buying a new one, you need to talk to the program administrator for exceptions.

Demo schedule: as calendar is always hard to manage, we ask you to pre-schedule a mid-term demo slot before joining the classes. The scheduled time is between 5-6 weeks after the class starts.

Connecting: you must join the TQL Slack group and TQL Class LinkedIn group before the class starts. These are communities and support platforms that are a core part of the learning experience.
